Scheme X Collection Center
The “Scheme X Collection Center” is proposed as a new 7-story building to house a major American art museum’s collection along with staff offices, conservation studios, fabrication shop, art handling & preparation spaces, photography studio, library stacks & processing, reading room, archive stacks & processing, and curatorial spaces. (The museum’s galleries are all housed in a building that cannot be expanded).
The facility is designed to support all “back-of house” operations of the museum. Given the variation and complexity of these programs, special features include enhanced structural capacity, control of temperature and relative humidity, specialized exhaust systems, and a high-performance building envelope. Every effort has been made to develop materials, assemblies, systems and finishes that are sustainable both for construction and for operation.
